Fleet Management

Once your devices are out in the field, you need a way to manage them remotely: deploy software updates, monitor their health, and configure them at scale. Fleet management solutions handle this, typically through a cloud backend and a device-side agent that communicates with it.

Open Fleet Management Interfaces

Rugix Ctrl exposes documented, open interfaces for installing system and application updates and following their progress. A fleet management agent can use these interfaces to deliver an update and trigger its installation, while Rugix Ctrl handles the update safely on the device.

These interfaces let you integrate Rugix Ctrl with your own backend or a fleet management solution of your choice. We also provide ready-made integrations and reference implementations for several platforms, so you do not need to build that connection from scratch.

Ready-Made Integrations

Rugix Ctrl integrates with:

  • Nexigon: The fleet management platform from the creators of Rugix, offering the most native Rugix experience, including first-class support for Rugix Apps.
  • thin-edge.io: An open-source device agent by Cumulocity IoT with official Rugix support.
  • Memfault: A fleet management solution with a strong focus on observability, supported through our reference integration.
  • Mender: A fleet management platform that can serve as the backend for Rugix Ctrl through our reference integration.

You can also use Rugix Ctrl without any fleet management solution at all, or build your own integration. For technical details on each integration, see the fleet management documentation.

Why Nexigon?

Nexigon is the commercial fleet management platform from Silitics, the company behind Rugix. Because the two projects are developed side by side, Nexigon offers the most native Rugix integration and a polished operator experience for managing Rugix-based devices at scale.

  • Native Rugix Apps management: Inspect installed apps, deploy new versions from a Nexigon repository, follow live logs, and start, stop, roll back, or remove apps directly from the Nexigon UI.
  • Rugix-aware OTA workflows: Manage update artifacts, stage rollouts across the fleet, track progress in real time, and retain a complete audit trail.
  • Secure remote operations: Access devices remotely, inspect their health, and run commands without exposing incoming ports or operating a VPN.

You can start with a free evaluation and follow the getting started guide for using Rugix and Nexigon together.

Nexigon's close integration does not change our open-source commitment: Rugix remains permissively licensed and contains no Nexigon-specific code, and we will not degrade its functionality to steer users toward Nexigon. Read our Commitment to Open Source.
